After the degree in biology and the civil service, in 1989 he works one year at SVIMEZ (Association for Industrial Development of Southern Italy) doing research on the state of the environment and water management in Southern Italy. From 1990 up to 1994 he works as a scientific consultant for Legambiente (one of the most important environmental NGOs in Italy). At Legambiente he edits, with Giovanna Melandri, the Report on State of the Environment in Italy ("Ambiente Italia Report", published yearly by Legambiente since 1989), and he is the scientific tutor of an important monitoring campaign on the state of Italian rivers ("Operazione Fiumi" 1992, 1993, 1994). From 1995 to 1998 works at Ecomed (Agency for Sustainable Development of Mediterranean created by the Municipality of Rome in 1995), following several studies and projects concerning sustainable use of water and natural resources in Italy and other mediterranean countries.
In 1997, he is in charge with the Technical Commission of the Ministry of the Environment to write the new Law for the protection of water bodies from pollution (D.Lgs 152/99). Since 1998 he is member of the workgroup on ecological network set up by the National Environmental Protection Agency. In 1999, he is entrusted by the Minister of Cultural Heritage with the scientific committee of the first National Conference on Landscape to be held in Rome in 1999. In the year 2000 he is charged to write – with the collaboration of Andrea Nardini and Antonio Massarutto - the chapter on water resources of Italian National Strategy for Sustainable Development, approved by CIPE (Comitato Interministeriale Programmazione Economica) in 2002.
Presently he is involved with ALT ("Environment and Labour", an Italian NGO), in an important project financed by the EU-MEDA program on sustainable use of water in southern mediterranean countries (www.zer0-m.org) and works mainly with Ambiente Italia Srl (www.ambienteitalia.it), a private Research Institute active in the field of natural resource planning, EIA, energy and waste management, Local Agenda 21) and with IRIDRA Srl (www.iridra.com), an engineering firm working in research and design of sustainable solutions for water and wastewater management.
