Born in 1949, he has a vast experience in various aspects of stream ecology. He worked on biological indexes (instructor at ten national courses on EBI), environmental indexes (co-author of indexes RCE-2 and IFF). He has followed the biological evolution of river restoration projects in Trentino and carried out research studies on river ecotones in European rivers within the EC projects European River Margins Study I e II. Recently he has focused his research activities into high altitude water ecosystems: he has participated in the EC project Arctic and Alpine Stream Ecosystem Research, followed by local scale projects on the ecology of high altitude running waters and coordinates research on environmental use of water resources in Alpine environments and on the development of specific evaluation methods for these particular habitats. He has published on various Italian and international reviews and delivered numerous lectures.
At present he is curator for invertebrate zoology and hydrobiology at the Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali (Natural Science Museum) in Trento.
