Robert Francis is a riparian ecologist from the University of Birmingham, UK. He is primarily interested in the interactions between ecological and hydrogeomorphological processes that relate to vegetation dynamics along rivers, in particular riparian tree establishment and river island formation. He has spent the last three years conducting research within this theme along the River Tagliamento, NE Italy.
